Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport – MKE, WI Bonne Terre

Introduction

Mintropy, LLC was engaged to provide Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection engineering services for the design and permitting of a new café/restaurant space at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport terminal. The scope of work included providing new HVAC systems, electrical power distribution, and plumbing systems for the proposed café area 1,500 Sq. Ft. and seating/lounge spaces 2,500 Sq. Ft. Mintropy also worked to ensure that the design aligned with airport authority coordination and relevant building codes.

Key Features

Mechanical (HVAC)

  • Provided HVAC heating/cooling calculations for the back-of-house (BOH) space.
  • Coordinated with architectural plans for transfer grilles, undercut doors, or existing plenum return options to meet HVAC requirements for BOH.
  • Add Alternate 1: Designed new HVAC equipment and distribution system for BOH if required.
  • Engineered a new general exhaust system for the space.
  • Incorporated localized controls for the HVAC system.

Electrical

  • Provided new electrical service, main distribution panel, and distribution panels for the café/restaurant space.
  • Designed general-purpose receptacle layouts and special receptacle layouts for specialty equipment (to be provided by others), coordinated with the architect/owner/consultant.
  • Provided power to two (2) floor boxes for modular seating and two (2) receptacles at the back wall of the lounge area, all fed from the airport terminal power.
  • Delivered electrical circuiting for lighting, general receptacles, plumbing equipment, specialty equipment, kitchen/bar equipment, signage, and POS systems.
  • Worked with the architect to coordinate seating/lighting power requirements for the seating area, powered from the airport terminal panels.
  • Ensured lighting design met Energy Code compliance through photometric calculations and coordination with the architect for fixture selection.
  • Provided egress lighting design to meet code requirements, including self-monitored emergency LED EXIT fixtures with 90-minute battery backup.

Plumbing

  • Designed new sanitary and domestic water service to accommodate the café/restaurant space.
  • Engineered sanitary drainage and vent systems for new plumbing fixtures, based on layouts and specifications provided by others.
  • Provided new domestic hot and cold water systems.
  • Engineered new recirculation systems as required for the café/restaurant.
  • Provided plumbing fixture specifications as per the architect’s design.

Fire Protection

  • Indicated fire protection zone outlines and hazard zone classification requirements for the general layout.
  • Assumed that final fire protection permit drawings would be prepared by a licensed contractor.
  • Assumed that existing fire protection services had adequate capacity to accommodate the interior modification.

Mintropy, LLC delivered mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for the creation of a new café/restaurant at the General Mitchell International Airport. The project involved new HVAC systems, electrical infrastructure, and plumbing systems to serve the space, while coordinating with the airport authority for seating and lounge areas. The design excluded demolition work and specific kitchen/bar equipment layout, which was handled by others.
