UMI Dispensary Lincoln Park – Chicago, IL
Introduction
Mintropy, LLC was tasked with providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services for the renovation of a former restaurant into a cannabis dispensary. The facility spanned approximately 4,100 Sq. Ft. , and the project included the design of HVAC systems, electrical distribution, lighting, plumbing and fire protection services to meet the needs of the new dispensary.
Key Features
Mechanical
- Engineered new roof top unit (RTU) systems, including single-zone systems for general spaces and a specialized RTU with humidification for the Vault space.
- Designed ductwork distribution from the RTUs to serve all spaces.
- Engineered toilet exhaust, specialty exhaust for the Vault, and general exhaust systems.
- Provided new gas distribution systems, assuming adequate incoming natural gas service.
Electrical
- Designed a complete power distribution system, including service entrance provisions and panelboards to meet load requirements with additional capacity for future expansion.
- Provided general and specialty receptacle layouts, along with AFCI/GFCI receptacles as required by code.
- Engineered electrical circuiting for lighting, receptacles, mechanical, plumbing, and specialty equipment.
- Specified commercial-grade LED fixtures for general and egress lighting, with self-monitored 90-minute battery backup for EXIT signs.
- Provided low-voltage system provisions for IT/data and security devices.
Plumbing
- Designed a complete sanitary drainage and vent system for the new plumbing fixtures, based on layouts provided by others.
- Engineered a complete domestic water system (cold and hot) for the new plumbing fixtures, with riser diagrams for permitting.
- Provided a recirculation system design as required.
- Assumed that the existing sanitary and water services were adequate for the facility.
Summary
Mintropy, LLC provided the necessary engineering services to renovate the facility into a fully functional cannabis dispensary. The project involved designing and coordinating HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems to meet the dispensary’s operational requirements and comply with all relevant codes and standards.
